Pirates attend ‘The Europe Debate’

On 4th February Harley and Stephen (London Branch members) attended an event in Parliament titled ‘The Europe Debate: Do UK technology companies benefit from EU membership? Is the Digital Single Market good for UK business?‘. This took place at 6pm in the Grand Committee Room of the House of Commons, hosted by The Parliamentary Internet, Communications and Technology Forum (PICTFOR).

This was a fairly one-sided event, the audience was very industry biased and the resounding message was that UK technology companies benefit from both membership of the EU, and importantly also from a stable relationship which is threatened by politically-motivated anti-EU sentiment.

Will you attend future events?

PICTFOR runs many events and anyone/everyone is welcome to attend. We encourage other London Branch members to attend these free events (and any run by other All Party Parliamentary Groups). These events give insights in to how Parliament works, lets the politicians know that we are ready to work with them and hold them to account, and is a fun alternative to the two monthly meetings.

There’s also occasionally “free” drinks (technically they’re probably coming out of your taxes, but whatever), if you needed any more reason to show up. 🙂
